Logan Ryan Band

Logan Ryan Band has broke out onto the Texas Country Music scene with a true Texas Red Dirt sound in early 2017. I can’t help but shake to the beat of this music with songs like Cigarettes and Alcohol, Guess Some Dreams Come True, and Tecovas, you won’t be able to help yourself either.

I discovered this band driving through Amarillo, Texas on my way home from a business trip. After going through the bands Instagram and TikTok accounts I made a discovery that hit pretty close to home.

There’s a special place in my heart for welders. It’s not just the fact that my Dad and brother are welders, it’s that I’ve spent most of my life around welders, especially in my younger years.

As a kid I can remember welders sleeping on the couch in our living room. There were several times they were working such long days it was easier to stay at our house than drive from where ever they were living or sometimes they were just down on their luck and needed a hand up. One afternoon I got off the bus from school to see the whole cold-e-sac lined with rig trucks. My parents were still running the business out of the house in those days. I don’t even remember why all the welders at the house that day, I just remember feeling like the coolest kid in school getting off the bus and seeing all those badass trucks parked out front. I was so excited, I ran to the house to see all the welders, them old boys were always so good to me.

By the time I was 10-years-old I could weld, use a grinder, and a plasma cutter, even though the grinder scared the shit out of me. My childhood was different than most suburban kids in Littleton, Colorado. My parents were entrepreneurs, building a business from nothing. My mom was running her own oil and gas consulting business. My Dad was working crazy hours all over the state. They even owned and operated a shop in Gillette, Wyoming for a few years. I grew up with my parents employees as a second family of sorts and to this day there is a certain level of comfort I have with welders.

Imagine my surprise when I discover that Logan Ryan Skloss, front-man of the band, is a welder himself. Now I’m not saying that’s why I connect with their music so much but it definitely added a few bonus points in my book.

The first song I heard was Signed, Love Wynonna and I was hooked. I went to the artists page and started listening to the rest of their songs. I think I played, Tecovas six times that day alone. All the while wondering, how have I not heard of this guy before?

Logan Ryan Band hit the South Texas music scene with the single Buenos Noches. Since the first single a steady stream of singles and an EP have been released. The band’s most recent single is “Love You For A Long Time,” an up beat number complete with acoustic guitar, harmonica, and the fiddle. The band includes Brent Riedel, Garrett McKinley, and Dallas Foster. Their Spotify reports 61.8k monthly listeners. This dynamic group has played with artists like Parker McCollum, Kolby Cooper, and Carson Jeffrey.

Their rich red dirt sound would not be complete without the fiddle, which in this case is so stylistic it adds so much to their overall sound. Skloss has a very unique voice and the fiddle really brings it all together.

If you are living under the same rock I have been then go check out the Logan Ryan Band anywhere you get your music. Catch them on tour (if you’re in Texas that is). I’m sure this band will continue to grow in popularity so go give them a follow.
